Welcome to our Year 4 Classes
Year 4 Expectations
In Year 4, the children should be reading every day. The school uses the Accelerated Reader scheme. Pupils have completed a Star Reading Assessment, and they have a reading zone written on the back of their bookmark. You can check books from home too to see if they are in your child’s reading zone at https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/ . Reading quizzes take place at school once the book is completed, and certificates can be earned for correct questions.
Children have spellings set each week on Mondays. These words will be used in spelling and handwriting activities during the week and should be practised daily at home. Weekly spellings will follow a theme (such as -ight words) and children will be expected to try to apply this theme to other words, not just those on their list.
We are working hard in class on times tables, so any extra support you can give your child at home would be appreciated. We encourage frequent use of mathsframe.co.uk.as well as TTRS (for which all the children have login details).
Maths homework tasks are set each week on Freckle, a password-protected website, and you will find your child’s details on their login details card (a copy of which has been sent home). Please ask your class teacher if you would like their settings changed so that the questions are always read out loud.
PE Day
Lions and Tigers have their PE day on a Wednesday. Children are expected to wear a white round neck t-shirt, black shorts or joggers, black trainers or plimsolls. As the weather turns colder school cardigans and jumpers can be worn over the top of the T-shirt.

Year 4 email address: year4learning@holytrinity-gravesend.kent.sch.uk
If you need any urgent information/communication, please telephone or email the school office, as the administrative team can pass any urgent messages on to the class teacher.
Timetable
Our timetables can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually seeing the structure of the day ahead.
Terms/Topic Information
Parents will receive a Curriculum Booklet at the start of each term informing them about what the children will be learning. This will also be available below to download.
Term | Curriculum Booklet | Knowledge Organiser (History/Geography) | Knowledge Organiser (Science/Art) | Knowledge Organiser (PE) | Knowledge Organiser (Spanish/DT) | Knowledge Organiser (Music) |

Home Learning
We expect children to read every day at home and discuss their book with an adult or older sibling. Your child is given a spelling list each week as homework, please go through these with your child. We also set maths homework on Freckle each Friday.
