Class Teachers: Miss G Wood

Welcome to our Year 1 Classes

“Hello, my name is Miss Wood and I’m thrilled to be your Teacher this year, I’m looking forward to welcoming you into Merlins class! I’m excited about all the new learning we are about to explore, especially the stories we will be reading and sentences you will write.I love Science and really hope you will join my excitement as we challenge ourselves to explore and extend our knowledge of the world around us, looking at the weather and the habitats animals live in. I find art exciting and like to mix colours allowing my creativity to flow. Can you draw a merlin? I enjoy many things like walking my dog Dolly through the many country parks, visiting castles such as Rochester castle and cross stitch, which is sawing crosses to create a picture. I’m looking forward to hearing all about you and finding out what you like to do.”

“Hello, super Sparrows! I am Mrs Kooner and I am really excited to be your teacher this year. I am looking forward to having some super exciting fun as well as great learning with you all. The subjects I like to teach include Maths, PE and Art. My favourite activities are painting, drawing and solving puzzles. I love animals and my favourite animal is a dog. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to go out with my two children and do fun activities with them. I am eager to start a year of amazing learning and fun and be a part of your learning journey.”

“Hello Sparrows, I am Mrs Rowe, and I will be your class teacher alongside Mrs Kooner. I have heard good things about you, and I am looking forward to being your class teacher in September. Home Learning

Your child is given a spelling list each Friday as homework which links to the Little Wandle phonics scheme that we follow in the school. We expect children to practise these daily at home and the children do a spelling test every following Friday. All of these books (Big Cat books, reading record, ‘Reading for Pleasure’ book and spelling book) are due and collected on a Thursday then new homework and books are given out on a Friday.

We expect children to read their Collins Big Cat book every day at home and fill in their reading records. We also send home a ‘Reading for Pleasure’ book that adults can read to the children.

Maths homework will be set once a week on the Freckle online learning platform. Phonics homework will be sent home every Friday and needs to be completed and returned the following week.
