Welcome to our Year 2 Classes

We have high expectations for all our pupils and encourage every child to achieve their full potential across all areas of learning. Our dedicated team works together to provide a supportive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment where children feel confident to explore, develop new skills and take pride in their achievements.

Through a fun, engaging and carefully differentiated curriculum, we aim to nurture each child’s curiosity, independence and love of learning.

We look forward to a happy, successful and exciting year with all our Hedgehogs and Porcupines!

Timetable

Please see below an exemplar timetable for most of the weeks this term. On Friday, the children will have Drama lessons from Drama 4 Kids to help develop their speaking and listening skills.

P.E. Day

Hedgehogs and Porcupines have their PE day on a Thursday. Children are expected to wear a white round neck t-shirt, black shorts or joggers, black trainers or plimsolls. As the weather turns colder school cardigans and jumpers can be worn over the top of the T-shirt.

Terms/Topic Information

At Holy Trinity C of E Nursery and Primary School, we utilise the Kapow scheme of work. Parents will receive a Curriculum Booklet and Knowledge Organiser at the start of each term, informing them about what the children will learn. This will also be available for download below.

More Information about the subjects can be found on our curriculum pages.

Home Learning

Reading

We encourage all children to read every day to develop their fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and enjoyment of reading. Children can read a variety of books, including:

  • School Accelerated Reader books
  • Library books
  • Little Wandle reading books
  • Books from home

Throughout the year, pupils complete regular Star Reading Assessments to help us identify their individual reading zones. This information will be shared with families so that you can support your child in choosing books at the appropriate level.

You can check whether a book is within your child’s reading zone by visiting AR BookFinder.

Once children have finished reading an Accelerated Reader book, they will have the opportunity to complete a reading quiz in school.

Thank you for supporting your child by making reading a regular and enjoyable part of everyday life.

Spellings

Weekly spellings are sent home for children to practise. We ask that pupils spend a little time practising their words throughout the week in preparation for their spelling quiz every Friday.

Regular practice will help children develop their spelling accuracy and confidence when writing.

Maths and Times Tables

We are continuing to develop our pupils’ mental maths skills and encourage children to practise regularly at home.

Your support with number facts, mental calculations and times tables makes a valuable difference to your child’s confidence and progress.

We particularly encourage children to use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRockstars) frequently to strengthen their multiplication skills in a fun and engaging way.

PE Information

PE Day: Monday

Both Hedgehogs and Porcupines have PE on Mondays.

Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing the appropriate PE kit:

  • White, round-neck T-shirt
  • Black shorts or black joggers
  • Black trainers or plimsolls

During colder weather, school cardigans and jumpers may be worn over the PE T-shirt to help keep children warm.

Thank you for ensuring that your child is suitably dressed and ready to participate in PE lessons.
