Bishop Simon Visits Holy Trinity
On Wednesday, we welcomed Bishop Simon to school. Bishop Simon enjoys spending time in the Church Schools within the Diocese and is the Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education. During Bishop Simon’s visit, he led Worship with our early years and KS1 children, talking about Jesus as the Light of the World and linking it to our school badge and vision. We joyfully sang, ‘Our God is a Great Big God!’

Bishop Simon enjoyed a school tour with Eliza and Abraham (Head Girl and Boy), who diligently took Bishop Simon to each classroom to say hello and enjoy seeing the learning that was taking place. There was time for Bishop Simon to enjoy a hot drink and biscuit whilst he talked to staff before an audience with representatives from some of our School Council and Prefects.

During his discussion with pupil leaders, the conversation and questions were wide and varied, ranging from questions about Bishop Simon’s day-to-day work and sport (he was particularly impressed by our knowledge of the Cricket World Cup in India!) We even enjoyed hearing a true story about a time a mountain climber met Neil Armstong on a flight from Los Angeles to New York but was so busy talking about himself and what he enjoyed whilst climbing he didn’t ask who Neil Armstrong was until the very end of the flight! Such a missed opportunity! We spoke about the importance of listening and being a good communicator and how these were good qualities to have as a Bishop.

Did you know that Bishop Simon…
• has 263 Churches that he works across and supports across the South East;
• particularly enjoys the Bible stories of Jesus’ resurrection and the Calming of the storm on Lake Galilee;
• has a favourite Bible verse in Isiah 42:
• enjoys meeting people and visits Dementia Cafes and other charities in the community ;
• had a dream job of being an astronaut as a young boy;
• has a number of hobbies including football (supports Liverpool!), cricket, rugby, reading and going to the cinema; enjoyed the subjects of English, History and Politics when he was at school.
• His favourite author at school was Michael Morpurgo
