Year 4 – Welcome to Term 6!
Welcome back, we hope everyone had a wonderful half-term and are ready to dive into the final term of learning in Year 4.
Year 4 children have a fantastic term ahead learning about the world’s oceans in our new topic ‘Blue Abyss’. From the early ocean exploration of the HMS Challenger to studying the creatures of the deep, we will be researching, sketching, modelling, collecting data, sorting, classifying and investigating.
Our text for English lessons this term will complement our topic. ‘The Bluest of Blues’ by Fiona Robinson, set during the Victorian era, follows the main character, Anna Atkins, growing up learning all about science. She goes on to become a botanist and the first person ever to publish a book of photography.
In Maths, we will be completing units on shape, statistics and position and direction. The children will also be completing the national Multiplication Tables Check.

Children should complete a comprehension quiz on their reading book once to twice a week in order to make good progress. Please ensure your child has their reading book and reading record in school daily.
Spellings and times tables tests will continue eery Friday. We expect children to practise their spellings daily and revise their times tables frequently in preparation for this. We encourage frequent use of mathsframe.co.uk.
