Welcome to our Year 3 Classes
In Year 3 we encourage reading every day: a school Accelerated Reader book, a library book or your own books. Pupils complete a Star Reading Assessment regularly throughout the year, and this gives us a reading zone – we will send this information home. You can check books from home or the library to see if they are in your child’s reading zone at https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/ . Reading quizzes take place at school once the book is completed, and certificates can be earned for gaining points in these quizzes.
Children have spellings sent home each week for a quiz on Friday, and these words will be used in spelling and handwriting activities during the week.
We are working hard in class on our mental maths, so any extra support you can give your child at home would be appreciated. We encourage frequent use of Freckle www.freckle.com
Maths homework tasks will be set each week on Freckle, a password-protected website, and your child’s login details will be sent home. Please ask your class teacher if you would like their settings changed so that the questions are always read out loud. This year we have started using Times Table Rock Stars, a letter with your child’s login details was sent home, please ask if you need another copy.

To ensure that you can communicate with your child’s class teacher, we have created year-group email addresses. When sending an email please include your child’s name in the subject line.
If you have any urgent information/communication please telephone or email the school office, as the administrative team can pass any urgent messages to the class teacher.

P.E. Day
Bumblebees and Dragonflies have their P.E. day on a Tuesday. Children should wear a white round neck t-shirt, black shorts or joggers, black trainers or plimsolls. As the weather turns colder school cardigans and jumpers can be worn over the top of the T-shirt.

Home Learning
In Year 3, the children are encouraged to read every night on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This must be recorded in their Reading Record. Children will not be able to change their books until they have completed their Accelerated Reader Quiz. A Freckle task will be given to the children each Friday to be completed by the following Friday and they will be given times tables to learn for a times tables test on Fridays.
