Welcome to Year 3
Hello, my name is Mr Smit, and I am delighted to be in Swifts! I am a very keen reader of children’s literature and I love to read. I also tell and write stories, especially ones that involve character voices. My favourite activities include watching films, attending my local church, playing and watching football, keeping fit and dancing! As with every class, I expect my students to join me in setting an excellent example to the school by showing our values of love, honesty, and respect.
Hello, my name is Mrs Lockey, and I am teaching Falcons, which is such fun! I love to teach, especially Mathematics. I am a family person and spend a lot of my free time with my granddaughter. I love baking! I expect my students to always try their best with their work as well as show respect to adults and their peers in school.
The annual St George's Day Parade will be held on Friday 21st April 2023. On Tuesday 18th April, the children made artwork with the help of a local artist to take with them on the parade. There are photographs at the bottom of the page which shows this. The final timings of the parade are detailed below. It is anticipated that the parade will be finished by 11.30am at the latest.
The outline timetable for the day is as follows:
10.35am - Parade starts
11.05am - Parade arrives on Community Square
11.30am - Event finishes and schools depart
Parents are welcome to support the event on the day but due to the high numbers of schools involved it is requested that they support the parade from the side rather than try and walk with their children.
On Wednesday 26th April, the children will be taking part in an interactive workshop provided by Portals to the Past. The workshop will explore numerous artefacts and ancient technology and tools. This will intersperse with interactive discussions on sub-topics relating to the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. The children are being encouraged to dress in a Stone Age outfit to make the day even more memorable. A letter has been sent out requesting permission and an £8 payment for your child to take part in this workshop.
Bank Holiday Monday
There are the following bank holidays this term:
Monday 1st May 2023: May Day
Monday 8th May 2023: Due to the King’s Coronation
Falcons and Swifts have their PE day on a Thursday, children are expected to wear a white round neck t-shirt, black shorts or joggers, black trainers or plimsolls. During the spring months of P.E. school cardigans and jumpers can be worn over the top of the t-shirt.
Year 3 Expectations
In Year 3, the children are expected to read every night on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They then are required to read once between Friday and Sunday. The school is currently implementing the Accelerated Reader scheme. A comprehension task is given each Friday to the children to be completed by the following Friday.
Children are expected, alongside their weekly spellings every Friday, to learn the times tables shared with them by the class teacher. A times tables test will commence every Friday. Additional mathematical tasks are available on Freckle (a password-protected website).
All homework tasks are communicated via the red A4 homework book. This book must be brought in every Friday.
Our Wider Curriculum topic for Term 5 is Through the Ages, which is a history based project linked to the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age. Our Science topic will link to this as the children explore fossils and how they are formed. Please see at the bottom of the page, the Term 5 and Cornerstones booklets and knowledge organisers for more information.
