About the teachers
Miss Edwards (Barn Owls) has been teaching at Holy Trinity since September 2001, she may have taught your brother or sister!
She enjoys teaching lots of subjects: maths, science, history, music and many more.
In her spare time she knits avidly and enjoys cooking. She has two teenage children and often visits castles and history festivals or food and craft fairs with them.
Miss Wood (Puffins) is interested in all the new learning Year 5 have been exploring, especially the stories that are read and the ones that you write.
She loves maths and science and really hopes you will join her excitement as you challenge ourselves to explore and extend your knowledge.
She finds art a great way to relax and allow creativity to flow in her spare time.
Term 5
This term we are looking at 'The Great War' (World War One) in a number of our subject areas. We have a workshop, with artefacts and an expert on Wednesday 3rd May - we have sent a letter with more information.
We also have a free Happiness workshop on Thursday 4th May and a free music workshop on Friday 5th May: it's certainly a busy week for us!
P.E. Day
Puffins and Barn Owls continue to have their P.E. day on a Thursday in which they take part in two games sessions, either with our sports coach or a class teacher. Children are expected to wear a white round neck t-shirt, black shorts or joggers, black trainers or plimsolls. During the cooler weather school cardigans and jumpers can be worn over the top of the t-shirt.
Year 5 Expectations
Year 5 are expected to read at home daily, this should be recorded in their reading record book. The more books read, the more Accelerated Reader quizzes can be completed at school. Each quiz carries a number of points that increase in value when 60% or more questions are answered correctly. 5 points earns a certificate.
Our basic knowledge will focus on multiplication and division, and our weekly spellings. Maths work is stuck into homework books so that it can be continued at home, or if it is a game we have been playing parents can play the maths game at home as well. Maths homework is set using Freckle online and changes each Friday. Please ask for a new log in if it has got lost.
Paper-based homework is given out in the form of spellings every Friday afternoon on a look, cover, say, write sheet for children to learn at home and a comprehension exercise each Monday.
