Rock show!

This term we have been investigating how different types of rocks are formed.

To demonstrate the formation of Igneous rock we melted chocolate "rocks" to make molten lava.

The rocks heat up to such a temperature, within a volcano, that they become liquid.

Once the rocks are liquid and have exploded out of the volcano and found a place to settle and cool, they become solid again.

However, they are now a different shape and texture.

The following week we created our own sedimentary sandwiches.

We did this by layering different ingredients to represent the layers of vegetation, rock and material that are compressed to form sedimentary rock.

This helped us to understand the process and was great fun!

What other type of rock can you think of?
