Learning and caring together, building a firm foundation for the future

How can we organise cupcakes?

In Kestrels we were given the task of organising the data from a cake shop.

We were unable to make the hundreds of real cupcakes needed, so we used pictures of cupcakes instead.

First we sorted our cupcakes into flavours.

Next we started to arrange the flavours into lines.

We carried on until all our cupcakes were used.

We had almost 200 cupcakes to sort! It was a big job and the picture graph took up too much space.

We changed the pictures into strips of card, where 1cm represented one cupcake.

This was much easier for us to interpret.

You could try making your own graph of your class' favourite thing or you could make some cupcakes!
