Learning and caring together, building a firm foundation for the future

Christmas festivities

On Monday Year 2 had the pleasure of being invited to Christ Church for Christmas activities and fun.

When we arrived we collected together to recap the special story of Jesus’ birth. After this we split into 5 groups and moved together around 5 different activities. Each was kindly run by members of the church and was about a different part of the Christmas story. Here are the activities we enjoyed:

The Message – we gathered like shepherds, found a fire and thought about how they felt to hear such a special message of Jesus' birth. We also thought about the message of peace that we could give at Christmas time.

Advent Wreath – There was a very large and beautiful advent wreath which we all added a decorated pinecone too. As we decorated the pinecone we thought about anything we had done wrong and wanted forgiveness for. We also spoke about how we prepare for Christmas at home and in school.

Mary’s House – We walked into a house, which was different to our own and we thought somebody poor might live there. Soon we saw some flour in a bowl. We worked out that she must be making bread, which needed a pinch of salt added to it to make it taste good. As we added the pinch of salt we thought about times that we might need courage.

The Journey – We had puppets and a map mat to help us act out the journey that Mary and Joseph took from Nazareth to Bethlehem. We thought about long journeys that we had been on and how they made us feel, linking this to how Mary and Joseph must have felt.

The Gifts – We discussed the gifts that the 3 Wise Men bought to baby Jesus and even got to look at and smell them. After we drew gifts that we would give to a special baby.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Christ Church and learnt lots too. Thank you to Christ Church for putting together this activity and to the parent helpers who kindly joined us.

What can we share with you at home from this christmas experience?
