Commentators and Jewellery Designers
Year 6 have been taking on a range of roles, from commentators in English to jewellery designers in Topic.
As part of English, we have listened to sports commentaries and thought about what features make a good commentary. We then planned our own commentary thinking about the features and what phrases might be used to describe the action, as well as give information. We considered how we might commentate before, during and after the sporting event.
Some of us chose to commentate Mo Farah winning Gold in the 100m race during the London 2012 Olympics, whilst others chose a sport that they personally enjoy to commentate. As well as writing, some of us had a go at actually commentating our sport, just like we would hear over the radio!
Take a listen to Anya commentating a running race:
Take a listen to George commentating a cricket game:
We think they both sound very professional - well done!!
Year 6 have also been busy designing jewellery, after learning that the Indus Valley Civilisations were among the first to create jewellery. We thought carefully about the colours and patterns we were going to use.
Take a look at Martha's variety of jewellery designs which span across the Indus Valley era:
Freya's range of jewellery - modelled on a drawing of a lady:
Anya also went on to complete our challenge task of actually making the jewellery using resources she already had at home:
Well done to our Daring Designers!
Would you like to wear any of these pieces of jewellery?
We love seeing your work and hearing all of your great ideas, keep up the good work Year 6!
