Learning and caring together, building a firm foundation for the future

A New Generation of Jewellery Designers!

Apologies for this delayed post! We did some amazing design work last term, and wanted to showcase our work - even though it was a few weeks ago.

Bangles, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants: what is YOUR favourite bit of 'bling' to wear?

Last term, year 5 used clay to create a new piece of jewellery. In Barn Owls we watched the finale of 'Next in fashion' to see how designers create a 'line' or 'range' of fashion pieces. A line is collection of different pieces with a theme or 'motif' running through them that shows that they are connected.

One of the things we learnt is about how clay as a material can work - or not - in jewellery. Polly created a lovely bracelet, which then snapped as it dried. Undaunted, she tried a new fashion idea - on the ear!

We showcased our work in a school fashion show - and finally, we evaluated what we had made and used our experience to design a whole line - or range -  of jewellery. We had to create a theme, think about costings and who we would market it to.

Do you have a favourite designer?

What have you done with YOUR creation?

What would you design next....?
