Pattan's Pumpkin

This term we have been reading the book 'Pattan's Pumpkin'. It is set in India and involves a pumpkin saving the day. As the pumpkin is such an important part of the story, we have been doing lots of describing of pumpkins.
At the beginning of the week we looked at adjectives and similes used in the book to describe the pumpkin. Children then wrote their own description to describe the appearance of the pumpkin, including its colour, size and shape.
Later in the week, we were lucky enough to taste pumpkin. We had varying views as to whether we liked the taste. Nevertheless, we worked really hard to ensure we used ambitious vocabulary to describe the inside of the pumpkin. We looked in the thesaurus to up-level our describing words and found new words that we hadn't even heard of before!
We have begun to use these fantastic describing words to write lines on strips of paper, that could be used to make a poem about Pattan's pumpkin. Next week, we will be writing our poems, and hopefully entering them into a Poetry competition!
